Johne’s disease or paratuberculosis (PTB) is an intestinal infection caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) that affects wild and domestic ruminant species, including sheep, goats, deer, camelids and primates. The clinical manifestation of PTB may include diarrhea, decreased milk production, edema, infertility and weight loss and the control of the disease requires animal culling to prevent disease transmission.
